A Special Christmas at Treasures of Africa!
by Lydia Schaeffer - TOA Director

Christmas morning at the Treasures of Africa Children’s Home was filled with lots of joy. Each of our children received a brand new outfit that they excitedly put on to wear to church that morning. The children were grouped according to age and each age group had matching outfits made by a local tailor especially for them. From the oldest to the youngest everyone was dressed in a beautiful new outfit for Christmas. Our Assistant Director, Eli Kiwelu, took all the children to church with him, including our five youngest who are not yet three years old.
After everyone left for church, our wonderful cooks got busy preparing a Christmas feast. They worked hard and did a wonderful job preparing four different main dishes and lots of side dishes that included fresh fruits and vegetables grown from our own garden. Jodie and I provided the dessert by baking a large basket full of cupcakes. The spread of food on our Christmas table was bountiful!
The dining room tables and benches were set up outside on the porch and by 2pm we were all together thanking God for the greatest gift of His son Jesus and this special day of celebration. All the children and workers sat together and enjoyed the wonderful meal.
After eating and cleaning up, the children gathered in the family area and relaxed while watching a movie. Later in the day we all went outside and played together. It was a very relaxing day, but it was also a special Christmas day to remember. And for our newest children – it was the first celebration of Christmas that they had ever experienced!

EDITOR’S NOTE: We are grateful for all who contributed to make Christmas day at TOA a very blessed one for the children and staff. And we are especially thankful to God and all of you who gave financially and prayerfully in 2009 to provide the needs of the children at Treasures of Africa. Please remember the orphanage each month in 2010 – both in your giving and in your prayers. As the children get older, the expenses at the orphanage increase as their needs for clothing and educational expenses keep growing. We are determined to see these children receive an excellent education and continue to maintain an atmosphere of love and excellence at TOA - spiritually and in every respect. Such a commitment requires both faith and money! So we encourage you – even if your gift each month is small – it MAKES A DIFFERENCE! If everyone who receives this newsletter gave something each month, it would revolutionize the TOA budget! Please consider making a regular donation to HWCM one of your New Year’s resolutions!
