T.O.A. New Mascots

Summer vacation would not be complete without puppies romping through the grass with the kids. Treasures of Africa Children’s Home was blessed with two new puppies - Kili (short for Kilimanjaro) and Geo. The dogs are purebred German Shepherds who will serve as effective guard dogs for the orphanage, paid for by a generous friend and donor. Right now, at just over 12 weeks, they are more lovable than intimidating, but they are growing rapidly and are very smart.

The children are becoming acclimated to the dogs, which are almost NEVER kept as pets in Africa. However, the staff has encouraged the children not to fear them, and slowly but surely they are warming up. The favorite game among the older children is to run and have the dogs chase after them. The shrieks and laughter that game produces is comical.
We are grateful for our new additions, as the crime rate in Tanzania has jumped significantly over the last year or two, and the dogs will provide an additional measure of security for the orphanage.
