Education Report From TOA

by Lydia Schaeffer TOA Program Director

May 2008

The first quarter of school has quickly come and gone. After meeting this past week with the teachers at our local school I am happy to report that all of our students are doing very well. Some of our children had never attended school before coming here to TOA and they have had to work harder than many of the other children in order to keep up with the rest of the class. We are very pleased with the progress our children are showing… and so are their teachers.

Last year Sifaeli struggled in school. She had little interest in her studies and her teachers were concerned that she might not pass the National exams. After much hard work and tutoring she did pass the National exams and entered this school year with a new attitude towards her school work. Her teachers are pleased to report that is doing well in school and is currently ranked 25th out of 67 students.

When Emanueli first came to us he had never attended school before. We enrolled him in first grade although he was 10 years old. He struggled with sitting still and holding a pencil. It was all so new to him. He is now in 2nd grade and I am pleased to report he is currently ranked number eight out of 60 students. His teachers say he excels in math more than all the other students. In fact all three of our children in 2nd grade are ranked in the top ten with Raymond ranked number six and Glory ranked at number 10.

But one of the most amazing of all is our beautiful little Witness(pictured above). She is in first grade and is ranked number one out of 90 students!!! Her teachers say she is far and above all the rest. She is a joy to have in class and between her excellent academics and superb classroom behavior they say she is a treasure… and we agree wholeheartedly!!!
