Helena and Glory are sisters. Helena is 9 years old and Glory is 7 years old. Their father died in 2006 due to drug and alcohol use. When the father died, their mother abandoned them, leaving them with the elderly paternal grandparents. They were found living in a very dangerous situation, with a 28 year old uncle who was addicted to drugs and in his last stages, dying of TB. Glory had tested positive for Hepatitis B when she first arrived. But after some time, good nutrition and lots of prayer, she has now tested negative! We praise God for that!
Glory is in Standard 1 (1st grade) and Helena is in Standard 3 (3rd grade). Though they were both very quiet and a little scared when they first arrived at Treasures of Africa, after a few days they began to play freely…laughing and running and dancing! Their countenances look completely different from when they first arrived. It’s been incredible to watch the transformation already begin to happen in these young girls!
