Rukia

Rukia was born on July 15, 2006. Her mother died August 13, 2006 of AIDS. Her aunt began taking care of her but she was sick and not strong enough to care for Rukia. The village where she came from wrote a letter on behalf of her father asking for assistance to care for Rukia because he was not able to take care of her.

She was brought to us on August 10, 2007. Although she was more than a year old when she came to us she was not able to walk or even crawl. She was very small and underdeveloped. Rukia’s transition to TOA was difficult. But our staff of “mamas” loved on her to help ease the transition time. Within a few months Rukia began to crawl and in January 2008 she started walking. Now she is unstoppable.

Rukia enjoys playing outside with the other children and being held. Rukia has found the love and comfort she needs from everyone here at Treasures of Africa Children’s Home.
