Sifaeli and her half sister Fatuma were the very first residents of the Treasures of Africa Children's Home. They came to live with us in March of 2007. Sifa's father abandoned her and her mother when Sifa was very young, and then her stepfather was murdered by robbers. One year after her stepfather's death, Fatuma and Sifa's mother died of heart problems. The two girls were taken in by an elderly grandmother who was sick, had no income and was caring for several older grandchildren. They all lived together in a very humble one room house. A local pastor who was concerned about the girls' well-being, recommended that TOA consider taking them into the Home. After such a heartbreaking series of tragedies in her life, Sifa came to live at TOA with a heavy heart. At first she kept to herself and was very quiet. But slowly she has grown to trust and love both the TOA staff and other residents. She is very attentive with the younger children and loves to mother them. When asked what she liked best about Treasures of Africa, she replied, "I love the special classes we have when there is no school and we learn how to have good manners and learn lessons about living life and doing right." Sifa is becoming a beautiful young lady and has a bright future ahead of her. Thanks to the faithful donors supporting Treasures of Africa, she is looking to her future with a hopeful heart! |
