Mary at Treasures of Africa in 2007I first arrived at Treasures of Africa as a little child of just seven years old, young, curious, and unaware of how profoundly my life was about to change. At that time, the one thing I deeply desired was education. I remember sharing this simple but heartfelt dream with Mama Rita, believing that education was the only path that could truly help me change my life. I did not understand sponsorship or long-term plans, but I knew that learning was my hope. As time went on, I began to see real changes in my life. Doors that once felt closed slowly opened, and I was given the opportunity to go to school. Step by step, through care, guidance, and unwavering support, Treasures of Africa became more than a place of help, it became a family that nurtured my dreams, believed in my potential, and walked with me as those dreams began to take shape.
Growing up under the care and guidance of Treasures of Africa shaped not only my education but also my character. Through every school year, challenge, and milestone, I was reminded that I was not walking alone. There were donors who prayed, gave generously, and trusted that their support would plant seeds for a better future. Because of them, education stopped being a distant wish and became a real and achievable path.
Today, I am deeply pleased to share that I have successfully completed a Master of Science in Microbiology and Immunology, emerging as the best student in my cohort, an achievement that reflects years of dedication. This achievement is not mine alone. It is the fruit of years of sacrifice, encouragement, and unwavering support from Treasures of Africa and its donors. From a seven-year-old child with big dreams to a postgraduate scientist, this journey stands as a testimony of what is possible when compassion meets opportunity.
This sponsorship has transformed my life in profound ways. It has equipped me with knowledge and skills that extend far beyond the classroom. More importantly, it has given me a strong sense of responsibility to give back. The education I have received is not only meant to change my personal story, but also to serve as a catalyst for uplifting my family, supporting my relatives, and contributing meaningfully to the community back in my village. I now carry the hope of being part of solutions, especially in improving health, awareness, and opportunities for others.
As I reflect on this journey, one truth stands out clearly: “It is only by grace that I have come this far.” God’s grace, expressed through the love and generosity of Treasures of Africa and its donors, has carried me through every stage.
To every donor, supporter, and member of the Treasures of Africa family, thank you. Your belief in a young child changed the course of my life. I hope my journey encourages you and reassures you that your investment is bearing fruit, not only in my life, but in the lives of many others who will be touched through what you have made possible.
Be blessed always.
