Although it may be hard to imagine a mother abandoning a baby as beautiful as little Joshua, it happens all too often in a third world country where poverty is rampant.
Thankfully, Joshua was left at the hospital, and not dumped in a field or by the side of the road as we have often seen over the years. So he was fed and cared for in his first weeks of life.
In Joshua’s case, just after his birth, his mother was kept at the hospital for post-birth medical complications. The two stayed at the hospital for nearly a month. When it came time for mother (and baby) to be discharged, the mother disappeared, leaving little Joshua behind.
Whether Joshua’s mother was suffering from post-partum depression or she was just overwhelmed by the thought of another mouth to feed, we do not know. But we do know that the family was financially distressed as they were unable to pay the hospital bill.
There will be an attempt to locate and reunite Joshua with his family. Meanwhile, we will love and care for Joshua with your generous support.
